I have a buddy that lives under 15 miles away and he is on the 250Mbps plan and he got expected speeds from the same sites where I was struggling. Since I'm able to hit advertised speeds with at least one site the assumption is that it's not related to a cabling issue but more so a pathing / routing issue inside Comcast's network. If I fiddle with specific servers on DSLReport's speed test site and narrow it down to one or two servers in Colorado or Iowa I can get back into the 120Mbps range, but letting it auto select brings it right back down to 50Mbps. I would have suspected that something was wrong with the line or modem until I saw that Xfinity's site shows the advertised 125Mbps speed. My plan is an ancient Blast!+ one that is 125/12 (gets confusing as the new Blast plans are 250+), and from other speedtests they show 45-60Mbps speeds while upload is pretty consistent at 12Mbps. I found something interesting while digging into this, it seems that Xfinity's speedtest site shows the expected speed while all others are reporting less than half my rated speed. So I noticed in June / July my internet speeds weren't what I expected and decided to start speedtesting and see if I could track down what was going on. WRC 10 looks great, but that isn’t the best thing about this PlayStation 5 version in particular. Sure, the latter makes the game look a bit unsavory, even uglier than your average WRC on Xbox One, but let me rephrase that to you: consistent 120 frames per second.Ĭourses like this one make me realize how utterly crazy rally drivers must be in order to race under such life-threatening circumstances. Not only does it look impressive, but it features even more detailed lighting effects, and to top it off, runs at a buttery smooth 60fps on its balanced mode, and double that on performance mode. WRC 10 makes its predecessor look like Mario Kart 64. It ran at a decent framerate and featured pretty environments. Last year’s WRC 9 was a pretty good looking game for a AA Xbox One title. Let’s start with the graphical enhancements. It also has a ton of room for you to tinker its difficulty in order to actually be completely viable for newcomers. More than just a visual enhancement over its PS4 predecessors, WRC 10 features the best controls and physics in any of the franchise’s games. I just wasn’t expecting for the PS5 version of WRC 10 to be so good. They made their games work on the Switch, so I wasn’t doubting that they would be able to do so. COmparisons are tricky to find since Intel stopped doing the top rank Core i5 and Core i7 at the same clock speeds, but a quick look back to Haswell/Devil's Canyon gave up a nice direct comparison between the i5 4690k and the i7 4770k (both have 3.5GHz base and 3.9GHz turbo): What you find in that review is that the i7 has < 35% higher throughput than the i5 in Cinebench, so yes, those Hyperthreads are genuinely worth that little in the real world. Hmm, I genuinely wouldn't be surprised to find that Intel's HT threads can't manage more than 33% boost in throughput. I'd hope, and have found, that a hyperthread provides a lot more than that, although it would depend on the application. Either way, 2018 is turning out to be a fascinating year for CPU launches.ĭevBunny If you'd expect 2 cores to beat 6 hyperthreads then those hyperthreads would be 30% as productive or worse. An earlier leak reportedly showed the Core i7-9700K hitting 5.5GHz with water-cooling, and now expreview reckons the chip will do 5.3GHz on air using just 1.215V. We're eager to see how the 9700K compares to AMD's eight-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 2700X using our own benchmark suite, and we suspect we'll have the opportunity to find out soon, but in the meantime it seems Intel will continue to have the upper hand in the overclocking department. To provide a comparison, we've run the same benchmark on our own Core i7-8700K test platform (above, right) and the results suggest that Coffee Lake Refresh is roughly five per cent quicker in a single-threaded scenario, and despite having fewer threads to work with, the eight physical cores deliver almost a 10 per cent boost in the multi-threaded test. In the screenshot (above, left) a Core i7-9700K returns a single-core score of 6,297 and a multi-core score of 30,152. Geekbench isn't the test we typically turn to for high-end desktop CPUs, yet the early numbers do shed some light. Base clock will fall from 3.7GHz to 3.6GHz, while boost clock rises from 4.7GHz to 4.9GHz, but it will be interesting to see how the newcomer compares during real-world use given that it has two more physical cores but four fewer threads. In contrast to the current Core i7-8700K, which features six cores and 12 threads, the looming Core i7-9700K will be an eight-core, eight-thread part. What's interesting this time around is that Intel appears to be using hyper-threading as a means of setting the Core i9 apart from the rest of the pack our understanding is that K-Series Core i7 and Core i5 desktop CPUs will have the feature disabled, marking a surprise shift from previous generations. Rumoured to be launching as soon as next month, the new CPUs go by the code name of 'Coffee Lake Refresh' and are expected to built on an optimised 14nm architecture that will herald the chip giant's first mainstream eight-core parts.Ĭhampioning the range will be the Core i9-9900K, an eight-core, 16-thread flagship with base and boost clocks of 3.6GHz and 5.0GHz, respectively. Itching to get an idea of how the upcoming Intel Core i7-9700K processor will perform?
